Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Shine – Daily Affirmations app (“Shine”, “the app”) and the website shineaffirmations.com (“the website”) process, why, and what choices you have. Shine is designed to work without an account, and most of what you do in the app never leaves your iPhone.
Summary
- There is no account or sign-up. The app doesn’t ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your favorites, settings, statistics, mood entries and custom themes are stored only on your device. We can’t see them.
- We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, for example how many people open it each day.
- Purchases are handled by Apple, and subscriptions are verified by RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.
- We don’t show ads. We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
1. Who we are
Shine is developed and published by Mert Şen Fındıcak, an independent developer (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the processing described in this policy. You can contact us at support@shineaffirmations.com.
2. Information that stays on your device
The following information is created while you use Shine and is saved only on your iPhone, including the Shine widget on the same device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else:
- your favorite affirmations and which affirmations you have already seen;
- your settings, such as language, categories, theme and reminder time;
- the statistics shown in the app, such as your daily streak and the number of affirmations read;
- mood entries you create, including the mood, the reasons and any note you write (a Premium feature);
- custom themes. If you create one, Shine asks for access to your photo library and uses only the photo you select as a background. The photo stays on your device.
Daily reminders are scheduled by iOS on your device; Shine doesn’t use a push notification server. When you share an affirmation, it goes only to the app or person you choose in the iOS share sheet.
This information is deleted when you delete the app. It may also be included in your device backups, such as iCloud Backup, which are handled by Apple.
3. Information processed when you use the app
Affirmation content
Shine downloads affirmations from our server, which runs on Google Cloud (Firebase) in the United States. Each request contains only the language, category and page of affirmations the app needs, with no identifier. Like any internet request, it also reveals your IP address and the technical details iOS sends with every request, such as the app build and iOS version. We use this only to deliver the content and to keep the service secure and working. These server logs are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase, a Google service, to understand how Shine is used and to improve it. It collects:
- usage events, such as when the app is first opened or updated, how long it is used, purchases made in the app (product and price), and interactions with features such as the New Year challenge;
- device and app information, such as device model, iOS version, app version, language and country;
- identifiers for your installation: an app instance ID created by Firebase and Apple’s identifier for vendor (IDFV).
Your approximate location (country, region and city) is derived from your IP address; Google Analytics doesn’t store the IP address itself. We don’t link analytics data to your name or email address, and we don’t use it for advertising. Shine doesn’t ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, so your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) is not available to the app or to Firebase.
Purchases and subscriptions
Shine Premium is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes your payment; we never receive your card details, your name or your Apple Account email address. To verify and restore subscriptions, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States). RevenueCat receives your App Store purchase and subscription information (such as the product, price, currency, purchase and renewal dates, and transaction IDs), an anonymous identifier created for your installation, and technical information such as your IP address, device type, iOS version, app version and country. We use this to unlock Premium, restore purchases, prevent fraud and understand how subscriptions perform.
App updates
Shine can receive small fixes without a new App Store version through Expo’s update service (EAS Update, provided by 650 Industries, Inc., United States). When the app checks for an update, it sends technical information such as the app version, platform, the identifier of the currently installed update and a random identifier the app creates for update rollouts, together with your IP address.
Emails to us
If you email us, we receive your email address and your message, and we use them only to answer you.
4. The website
shineaffirmations.com is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google). The website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. When you visit it, Google’s servers process your IP address and browser information to deliver the pages and to protect the service. If you close the language suggestion on the website, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage on your device; it isn’t sent to us.
5. Why we process information
- To provide Shine: delivering affirmations, verifying purchases, restoring Premium and delivering app updates. This is necessary to provide the service you asked for (for example, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To understand and improve Shine and keep it secure: analytics, server logs and fraud prevention. This is based on our legitimate interest in running and improving the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- To answer you: when you contact us.
- Permissions: access to your photos and notifications is only used after you allow it in iOS. You can withdraw it at any time in the Settings app.
6. Who receives information
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with service providers that process it on our behalf and under their own privacy commitments:
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): content server, analytics and website hosting (Firebase privacy);
- RevenueCat: subscription verification (RevenueCat privacy policy);
- Expo: app updates (Expo privacy policy);
- Apple: the App Store, payments and iOS services (Apple privacy policy).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
7. International transfers
Our service providers are based in the United States and may process information in other countries. Where required, these transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
8. How long information is kept
- Information on your device: until you delete it or the app.
- Server logs for affirmation content: 30 days.
- Analytics data: for the period set in our Google Analytics settings, at most 14 months.
- Subscription records at RevenueCat: as long as needed to provide Premium and to meet legal and accounting obligations.
- Emails: as long as needed to handle your request.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) or California privacy law give you rights to access, correct and delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To use these rights, email us. Because Shine has no accounts, we usually can’t tell which analytics or server records belong to you; when you contact us, we’ll explain what we can find and delete it on request.
You can also:
- delete the app to erase everything stored on your device;
- turn off reminders in Shine, or in the iOS Settings app under Notifications;
- change or remove photo access in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security > Photos;
- manage or cancel your subscription in the iOS Settings app under your name > Subscriptions.
10. Children
Shine is a general-audience app and isn’t directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in your country. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Security
Information sent between the app and our server or service providers is encrypted in transit with HTTPS, and information on your device is protected by iOS security features. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we’ll also let you know in the app or on this website.
